General Boston information
- Boston Common
The Boston Common, located in the center of Boston and right next to the Paulist Center, is a wonderful place to walk around. It is also full of history and the beginning of the Freedom Trail.
- Public Garden
The Public Garden, located next to the Common, features beatiful flowers and is a wonderful way to continue your stroll from the Common. There are swan boats that can take you for a ride around the pond in the Public Garden.
- Arnold Arboretum
The Arnold Arboretum is further out of your way in the Jamaica Plain area of Boston (where we used to live!). If you have some extra time in Boston before or after the wedding, we recommend finding your way out to “JP”.
- Newbury Street
Newbury Street is eight blocks of restaurants, shops, boutiques, art galleries, and everything else you can imagine.
- JP Licks
JP Licks, located on Newbury Street just around the corner from the Hynes Convention Center T stop, serves our favorite ice cream in Boston.
- Copley Square
Surrounding Copley Square are the Boston Public Library and Trinity Church, and the Copley Place and Prudential Center malls are steps away.
- Fenway Park (not really in the Back Bay, but pretty close)
Fenway, home of the Boston Red Sox, is the oldest major league ballpark in America. Tours are offered every day until 3 hours before game time, or until 4:00 if the Sox aren't playing at home.
- Mike's Pastry
No trip to Boston is complete without some cannolis from Mike's. Words cannot decribe how good they are.
- The Old North Church
Remember “One if by land, two if by sea”? This is the place.
- North End Boston
Here is some general information about the north end.
- Harvard Square (General description at BostonSquares.com)
Harvard Square is home to Harvard University and many shops and restaurants. It's an excellent spot for people watching!
- Charlie's Kitchen
Charlie's Kitchen is one of our favorite places for a burger and fries in Cambridge. They always have good beers on tap and upstairs they have the best jukebox in Boston.
- Upstairs on the Square
If you're in the mood for a slightly fancier meal in Cambridge, definitely go to Upstairs on the Square. They've got wonderful food and a bright and charming atmosphere. Sit downstairs in the Monday Club and be sure to order some of the hot dates!
- Davis Square (General description at BostonSquares.com)
A little bit further out along the red line in Somerville, Andrea and Adam lived in Davis Square for a while. It's a charming square, and a bit quieter and less commercialized than Harvard.
- The Burren
The Burren is a fantastic Irish Pub, located just around the corner from where we used to live. They frequently have live Irish music.
- Namaskar Indian Cuisine
The best Indian food around.
- Jamaica Plain (General description at Wikipedia)
Jamaica Plain (“JP”) is the other place where Andrea and Adam lived. At the end of the Orange Line, there are all sort of interesting things there.
- Jamaica Pond
Walk over to Jamaica Pond, where you can take a shaded walk around the pond or rent a sailboat to take out on the water.
- Sam Adams Brewery
The Sam Adams Brewery is located in JP. You can take a tour to learn how the beer is made and try some of their seasonal brews.
- Zon's Restaurant
Zon's is probably our favorite restaurant in all of Boston. Their “comfort food” will knock your socks off.
